RFG and Franchise Arabia Partner for MENA Expansion

Retail Food Group (RFG) is pleased to announce they have partnered with Franchise Arabia to increase their growth potential in India and the Middle East North African (MENA) region.  The partnership highlights RFG’s focus on bringing world class brands to consumers who value quality and convenience.

Nicholas Brill, Divisional Director International at RFG said “We at Retail Food Group are particularly excited by this partnership with Franchise Arabia because of their reputation across the MENA region. It enables us to increase the footprint of our brands in the Middle East North Africa region, one of our key target markets. We believe brands like Donut King, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar and Michel’s Patisserie are ripe for expansion in this area.”

RFG already has over 200 outlets in the MENA region through its successful Gloria Jean’s Coffee Brand and the ‘It’s a Grind’ brand.

ALMOST 80% OF FRANCHISEES SUPPORT THE NEW DIRECTION OF RFG

New Group CEO, Richard Hinson has just completed a National Roadshow meeting nearly 700 franchisees. He listened, answered questions and outlined his new vision for the company. The results of the Post Roadshow Survey are in and the good news is that almost 80% of franchisees support the new direction of the company. 3% were unsupportive and the remainder were neutral. Almost 200 franchisees responded to the survey.

The key points of Richards plan include:

  • Simplifying the business from five pillars into three – franchise, coffee, and manufacturing and distribution.
  • More effectively integrating past acquisitions to improve Group outcomes and performance for franchisees.
  • Improving integration between head office, in-field operations and franchisees.
  • Streamlining supply chain across Brand Systems to better leverage Group buying power. National distribution tender to streamline supply chain – reduce from 16 distributors to one or two
  • Sharing best practice and positive franchisee and consumer experiences.

Palestine set for success with Gloria Jean’s Coffees

The Middle East and African regions continue to be a bountiful market for the Gloria Jean’s Coffees brand, with Khaled Aqqad and Yousef Asfour signing as Master Franchise Partners for the State of Palestine. The team look to have their first store opened by late 2018 and will grow their outlet base from there.

Retail Food Group (RFG) now have over 200 outlets in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region, which is largely driven by the strength of the Gloria Jean’s brand. With this latest signing, over twenty Master Franchise Agreements have been signed to date for the region, which highlights the desire for quality brands in the area. RFG are now looking to build on this success and are actively seeking Master Franchise Partnership opportunities for their fleet of brands including It’s A Grind, Donut King and Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar.

This agreement joins other recent Retail Food Group expansion with Gloria Jean’s Coffees Master Franchise Agreements also recently announced in the United Kingdom, additional growth of its Donut King and Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar brands in the United Kingdom, and Donut King expansion in Sweden.

Most recently, RFG are also celebrating the team behind expanding the Gloria Jean’s Coffees footprint in Austria, The Netherlands and Switzerland – the Winkel Group. The ambitious Master Franchise Partners, who already hold the master agreement for Germany, are very familiar with the brand and plan to open their first store in Cologne this October.  The strength of the brand has bolstered the belief in the entrepreneurial group that the surrounding countries near Germany present an enormous growth opportunity.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees Make a Splash Internationally

RFG is pleased to announce some great successes recently, with the signing of a new Master Franchise Partner in Uzbekistan, continued expansion into the Middle Eastern market with the signing of a Master Franchise Agreement in the State of Palestine, as well as the current Master Franchise Partners for Germany signing to lead the way into Austrian, Belgian, Dutch and Swiss markets. This activity highlights the incredible growth opportunity in Europe and Asia, with RFG’s footprint continuing to advance around the world.

RFG Accepted as a Member of the Canadian Franchise Association

We are proud to announce that as of 1 July 2018, Retail Food Group was granted admission into CFA membership for the following brands: Gloria Jean’s Coffees, Donut King, Crust Gourmet Pizza, Brumby’s Bakery, Pizza Capers and Cafe2U.

RFG’s acceptance was granted on the basis that as a company we endorse and subscribe to the CFA Code of Ethics. We’re excited for the journey that lays ahead of us in Canada and look forward to exporting our established brands into this market.

Excitement for Donut King in Sweden

The Donut King brand accomplished some major milestones this month. Donut King opened its doors for the first time in the European region, in Falun, Sweden. While it was only a soft launch with a small menu range, it is expected to have a full launch in the coming weeks. Earlier in the month Gloria Jean’s Coffees Indonesia Airports Master Franchise Partners visited Retail Food Group headquarters based on the Gold Coast in Australia. During their visit they signed a Master Franchise Agreement to bring Donut King to Indonesia Airports, with the first store expected to launch at the end of October. These were major milestones for the Donut King brand; with 25 outlets expected in the next 10 years in Sweden and United Kingdom expansion also scheduled, 2018 will be a big year for the brand!

International Team Sign new Master Agreement for Indonesia

RFG has recently signed a new Donut King Master Franchise Agreement for the licenced region of Indonesian Airports, making it the 85th international licensed territory for RFG.

The current Master Franchise Partners for Gloria Jean’s Coffees in Indonesian Airports, recently travelled to Australia to sign their new agreement to develop the Donut King brand across Indonesian Airports. At recent count there are almost 30 airports in the country with in excess of 1 million passenger movements, and the strongest Gloria Jean’s outlet in Asia is currently operated by this same team. The addition of a second RFG brand to the Masters’ portfolio is testament to our fantastic portfolio of brands and the teams behind them.  Support for our Master Franchise Partners at all levels leverages the internal strength of our Group, from the domestic brand teams, supply chain and procurement, training, retail design, business intelligence, product innovation, corporate communications, legal, and finance.  It is truly a company-wide team effort to grow and expand our brands internationally.

Launch of Gloria Jean’s Coffees in Kenya

Gloria Jean’s Coffee Kenya has officially opened the doors, in Chai Building, Nairobi. The store is one of the largest of its kind in the region at 450 square metres over two levels.

Attending the launch event on the 17th April was the Australian High Commissioner to Kenya, Alison Chartres, who officially cut the ribbon to open the store. Also in attendance were a number of Austrade representatives, among the many locals that flocked to the store to try the exceptional coffee and wide range of cakes. We would like to congratulate Jama Mohamed, Abdi Mohammed and the rest of the J and J Newman Company for the successful opening of their first outlet. We look forward to seeing many more outlets open their doors over the coming years.

RFG’s Australian operation has recently received adverse media attention, along with a number of other franchise brands, as part of a wider review into the Australian franchising sector.  Below is further information regarding this and the Company’s direction moving forward.

Our International business model is different

  • RFG does not own/run/resell company outlets in the International network, unlike in Australia.
  • The International model is based on ‘Master Franchise Partners’, who maintain Brand System protocols, but operate as independent businesses, managing their own supply chain, lease agreements, franchise partners and operations etc.

Retail Food Group proudly participated in the International Franchise Show London over 2 days in February. The International Franchise Show is the UK’s leading exhibition for the most exciting franchise opportunities from around the world and over 200 brands presented at the event. Mike Gilbert, Chief Executive – International, and Maria Hamill, Market Development Manager – Europe were joined at the booth by our newly appointed Master Franchise Partners in the UK: Naweed Nasir representing Gloria Jean’s Coffees and and Jabbar Mumtaz with Donut King and Crust Gourmet Pizza.

As we prepare to launch in the UK, excitement is building and this was clearly demonstrated with both Naweed and Jabbar speaking with hundreds of interested parties who were keen to learn more about the brands and discuss potential opportunities. The Expo was a resounding success with over 400 leads generated over the 2 days and enquiries fielded for Master License opportunities from as far away as Malawi to Warsaw. We also met many Aussie‘s looking for their favourite Donut King donut and excited about the opportunity of having a Gloria Jean’s Coffees or a boutique Crust Gourmet Pizza experience in London.

Pizza Capers Opened Doors in India

January, 2018

After much anticipation, January saw the first international Pizza Capers store open in the city of Pune, India. The store, which is located in Viman Nagar is the first to be opened in India over the next 10 years.

The launch was the culmination of hard work across many departments within RFG and saw ongoing collaboration with the brand team and senior management of QSR. This involved overcoming challenges which included adapting an Australian-centric menu to a vastly different palate of the Indian consumer, in a primarily vegetarian market. We look forward to the continued success of the Pizza Capers brand in the Indian market, as well as its dynamic growth in the wider global market.
